Move for Hunger
Neptune, NJ

from Philanthroper.com:

When people move, they throw out a whole lot of “junk.” Unfortunately, some of this “junk” is actually food.

1 in 7 Americans relocate each year. Meanwhile, 1 in 6 Americans do not know where their next meal is coming from.

Move For Hunger works with moving companies to rescue perfectly good food that their customers might otherwise throw away.

They provide specific information on each particular community’s food needs that’s shared by a moving company to each prospective client. On moving day, as boxes are packed up, simple labels designate the food donations that will be delivered to a local organization in need.

“Essentially, movers are bringing the food drive into the home at a time when people are literally throwing away their belongings,” says founder Adam Lowy. “By making food donation part of the moving process, we can create a year-round food drive while reducing the transportation costs facing many food banks.“

In just 3 years, Move For Hunger has expanded to over 200 moving companies in 37 different states. They have delivered over 365,000 lbs. of food to local hunger relief organizations.

Your donation will help expand Move For Hunger to even more communities, rescuing more food and directly feeding more families in need.

“My family has owned a moving company in NJ for almost 90 years (dating back to my great-grandpa),” says Lowy. “We’ve seen so much food go to waste – this seemed like a simple way that moving companies could support food banks year round.”
